David Walter Smith started writing and performing music during the early 1980s—ended up giving his life to the cause. Singing and playing guitar, be it Rock, Blues, Folk, on to Jazz back to country, the musician loved it all. By the 90s the songwriter moved from Chicago to Nashville to pitch songs only to end up in Venice, CA. by 2000 living in a van down by the ocean and playing music in the streets…lived like that for over 15 years. Along the way he had written two novels, a play and a screenplay.
In 2005 Mr. Smith began writing about his life, where he was and then how the years brought him there. A Proustian pursuit ensued giving birth to six volumes of memoirs to speak for 54 years lived. By 2019 David returned to writing novels with two more books.
Poetry was always there, mostly in song form, but the prolific writer kept tinkering with the medium, music aside. Amidst the years of memoirs, David wrote poems to express what the books might have missed, some abstract, others more direct.
